Hello, my name is Hannah Hipwell and I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling Practitioners (BACP). I have a Masters in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Roehampton and I have worked within a variety of settings which include the NHS, Hospice in the Weald and Kings Maths College London.
I run a private practice in the heart of Totnes at the Nautilus Rooms on Totnes high street. From here I provide one to one counselling sessions for individuals experiencing a range of mental health difficulties, as well as those simply wishing to deepen their understanding of themselves and how they relate to the world.
If you are finding it difficult to cope with life and feel unable to move forwards, then counselling can provide a safe and nurturing space to explore your feelings and find a path which feels right for you.
With warmth, empathy and understanding I will help guide you through this process and together we can embark on a journey of self discovery and deeper understanding, enabling a better quality of life.
I can work on either a short or long term basis depending on your needs. I also provide walking therapy sessions in a handful of rural locations surrounding the Totnes / Ashburton area.
My integrative training means that I have been trained in three different therapeutic approaches; Person Centred, CBT and the Psychodynamic approach. This gives me the flexibility to tailor the way I work depending on your needs.
The concept of approaching a stranger and exploring your inner most feelings and emotions can feel very alien but therapy can provide a safe and facilitated space to explore yourself without judgement. Whether you are dealing with relationship issues, the loss of a loved one, coping with anxiety, depression or stress, therapy can help you take a step back and explore your emotions in a safe and contained way.
As a mother of two small children, I know how demanding and transformative this time can be. Often the need to talk and have space for yourself can be vital yet difficult to access. This is why I offer Mother and Baby sessions, where baby can join us while we walk and talk. These sessions are discounted and are designed to help mothers access mental health support more easily.
I hold one to one walking therapy sessions from a handful of rural locations on the outskirts of Totnes, as well as at Southcombe Barn in Widecombe in the Moor, Dartmoor. We can choose from a number of walks, from a gentle stroll through the wild flower meadows at Southcombe, to embracing the wilderness of Dartmoor. The combination of walking and talking can be a powerful healing process and for some, can feel a little less daunting than speaking inside. Please contact me for more information about walking therapy sessions.
